Very nice job. I absolutely agree though, I would probably loose this radio and contribute to the unlicensed use of GMRS by woodland creatures

I’m not sure what you’re responding to in my post @WSFL951… my comments were specifically as to why I feel @CogentRadios “Imagine Nationwide or International Coverage of your GMRS Repeater, Legally!” is not supported by the rules or practicality of GMRS in my opinion (which happens to be that of the FCC). I’m confused as to the screen shot of Facebook pages about GMRS while quoting me.

If you can do one you can do the other. Do you realize you won’t be able to make sure you aren’t transmitting over the top of someone that is using simplex? Just because you put a repeater on a frequency doesn’t make that frequency yours. GMRS doesn’t have the amount of channels/frequencies that Amateur Radio has, nor does it have the coordination that makes such things possible. Want coms for a community nation wide, use a group text or Facebook neighborhood group page.

I got some catching up to do... Welcome @CaptainSarcastic, @FishinGary and @jjlava! Cheers

This makes sense. Thanks for the tip. It surprises me I never considered this as my father used to commercial fish.

So if I understand this you are using the MN360 (not type accepted for GMRS, part 95) to transmit to the repeater. Well I think in the end you will find you are wrong but you have been cordial in making your case for what has been kind of a hot topic here in the past. I look forward to seeing what the FCC has to say in response.

Go back and read the entire post where I quoted the FCC that you said you agreed to. You are selectively choosing to only address what you want while missing the intent of GMRS. Respectfully, I for one disagree that having POC would be very cool on GMRS. I’m pretty sure the FCC clarified their position and intent. On this I happen to agree with them. I respect your position to disagree but I see no point in a lengthy back and forth. You are just trying to find a spot in the fence that you don’t see a no trespassing sign to get to the other side while knowing you don’t belong there.

I think the FCC said it best… In addition to violating Commission rules, linking repeaters is not in the public interest. Because GMRS spectrum is limited and used on a shared “commons” basis, the service only works well on a localized basis when users can hear each other and cooperate in the sharing of channels. Linking repeaters not only increases the potential for interference, but also uses up a limited spectrum resource over much larger areas than intended, limiting localized availability of the repeater channels. GMRS and the Family Radio Service (FRS), which share many of the GMRS channels, are intended for individuals such as family members and friends, scouting troops, emergency response groups, and hobbyists to communicate with each other over short distances, directly or through a repeater station. Linking repeaters, via the internet or other networks, undermines the purpose and usefulness of the GMRS and FRS.

You're still connecting over the internet, and for the purpose of carrying voice. Yes, this ^^^ Others have tried the tactic of ignoring the FCC for profit and paid the fine. The "illegal marketing" by Rugged Radios back in 2020 comes to mind. They don't do that anymore. I expect there are others. The risk you may well find is yours.

Well that’s an awesome coincidence great minds…

Problem Receiving on Radiodity DB 40 g
WRUU653 replied to Parkschr's question in Technical Discussion
I would try testing it out with another power source first but it does sound like the radio has a problem and it’s time to send it back. -
Why do you think he’s a HAM? He is not. Your anger is misplaced.

Here is a chart that shows the eight repeater channels in the red box (23-30, aka RPT-1 through RPT-8) as described by @OffRoaderX.

You sometimes need a tone code - CTCSS - to speak to repeaters.
WRUU653 replied to Sonicgott's topic in General Discussion
He’s a one trick pony and he doesn’t seem to answer direct questions like this. I have started looking at his comments as if they were from a bot that only has one type of response… it’s just incapable of doing anything else. -
And then what? Radioddity GM-30 plus is not Chirp supported at this time.

Comparing PTT button characteristics of 6 HTs
WRUU653 replied to WRNU354's question in Technical Discussion
Pretty much. The buttons also have an orange border making it easy to see at a glance. The radio comes with a defalt of the top button keying the selected screen area which can be quite confusing when you hit the top button and it keys the bottom. I recommend using the settings to asign the top button to the top and the bottom to the bottom. This just makes intuitive sense. -
Comparing PTT button characteristics of 6 HTs
WRUU653 replied to WRNU354's question in Technical Discussion
I’m in the I haven’t given it much thought camp. I guess I prefer a more stout PTT as it would seem less likely to press unintentionally. One thing I do like is the dual PTT on the Wouxun KG-Q10H/G as it makes it very easy to keep track of transmitting on the upper or lower channel. You do have to select it to do this in settings. -
Just passed my General class test on Saturday!!!!
