They make a waterproof mic that screws down to seal to the radio.
-
It has a two screw sealed cover over the Kenwood style Jack and another over the usbc port. No tape needed. I have the non plus version. I like it. It’s not Chirp compatible but it’s pretty easy to program front of radio.
-
You may find the sch 20 at an electrical wholesale supply, you may have to buy a 20’ length.
-
Wow that is a hefty price! But is it Chirp compatible? I think it might have been Yakov Smirnoff that use to flip things for his Russia jokes (then again it could have been Robin Williams). So it would go something like this… In Russia you don’t program radio, radio programs you.

I don’t have the ODMaster app either but from what I can tell it’s just a way to program using the app and Bluetooth instead of programming with software and a cable connection to the radio. I don’t think it’s going to decide and propagate your radio with repeaters unless you put the info in. A google search shows videos on using the app. I think you are still going to need to gather the info you want and put it in.

UV-5G Pro and UV-5R GMRS receives from FRS but will not transmit

I first recommend following @WRHS218's advice and turn the tones off on all the radios. Another thing to keep in mind if you are trying to match tones is find out what the frequency of the tone is rather than the number. Some radios have more so the numbers may not line up. -
I appreciate where Ken is coming from and you as well Steve, I’m just trying to put some perspective of the guy who’s trying to figure it out and needs a hand and had the guts to ask after only joining moments before. He may or may not be here because he’s into radios but he needs the tools to work for his situation. It’s all good. Coffee is on me this morning ️

I have similar numbers on my Q10H except I was higher on 1.25m at around 2.5 and slightly lower than you on 6m at .85, I’m not sure my battery was at 100% but probably close.

Calling this persons radio a POS isn’t helpful. It didn’t even address the problem. This was their first post… this person literally just joined the forum and immediately got hammered for their choice of radio. Who knows if they will return after the warm welcome. Diplomacy matters if you want your opinion to be heard as information rather than insults. As for someone who is having trouble getting acquainted with trying to program repeaters… I’m gonna have to say maybe they’re not at a point where recommending getting a professional grade Motorola is really helpful. Or maybe they are used to working with Motorolas that have been programmed for them and they are now working with a local CERT for the first time and they aren’t radio dorks. Our local CERT recommends type certified radios for GMRS so maybe he’s following what he’s been told. Again none of this matters as it relates to the help they were seeking.

Did you enter the tones in the radio for the repeater channel? How are you programming the radio. You may find it easier to use chirp. A give us a little more info to help you.
-
Hello Matt, you probably know that GMRS is line of sight so you likely will know better than anyone what that looks like between your place and your grandsons. This tool may help you see what that looks like. Power will help but more important is antenna height. I say give it a try. It looks like you have a couple repeaters near you listed as open so that’s pretty great. Good luck and 73s.
-
Ask your doctor if GMRS is right for you. Don’t use GMRS if you are allergic to GMRS.
-
Looking at your program It looks like you are programmed correctly for frequency and tones according to the repeater map page. I agree with @SteveShannon that removing the RX tone will at least take that issue out of the mix. Do you hear the repeater on simplex? I’m leaning toward a desense issue in the testing which can happen when radios are too close to each other.
-
May sound silly but there is a fifth reason, the volume could be turned down. It happens to the best of us. The back of the RA87 also has two plug ins, one for speaker and one for data. Is there anything plugged into the back of the radio? Are you using the radios speaker or an external one?
-
It does seem odd that you know you can get into the repeater but can’t hear the repeater. I have the same questions as @WRQC527. Is there traffic to be heard? By changing to tone like @SteveShannon recommends you should hear everything on that frequency. Do you have different results when using an HT? Are you sure the repeater is on line? I looked at the repeater page and it says it’s on line however the owners page has both a green dot next to the named repeater and a triangle exclamation symbol. I don’t know what to make of that. What does this mean? It seems contradictory. Or is it trying to yell “Yes it’s on line”

It looks to me like both the KG-1000g and the KG-1000m look like the ham KG-UV980P. I don’t know if there are more versions out there or not.

Antenna Recommendations for Apartment

You got it exactly right. You’re good to go either way you use it. -
What radios do people use for MURS?
WRUU653 replied to Lscott's topic in Multi-Use Radio Service (MURS)
One differance other than being MURS that I see is IP67 VS IP54. That's reason enough to get them. -

I think this might fit your criteria. Retevis RT47V MURS Radios, IP67 waterproof, chirp programming, cheap. -
I had the same problem the other day and tried changing devices. I thought it might have been due to an update on IOS. Thanks @rdunajewski for your efforts.

On the side subject of projects, I’ve seen some projects out there that turn your old phone into a door bell using a ring generator. This phone still works but no land line anymore so I’ve been toying with the idea.
-
That’s pretty cool, looks like a fun project.

If anyone is to be sorry it wasn’t you sir. I apologize for my part in the distraction in your thread. You were right that the “proper expression of opinions could be done in much better ways”. A criticism and or observation I will take, regardless if it was directed at me or not. Life is too short to argue with strangers on the internet and who knows what struggles they may be having in their own life. Apologies again and Happy Thanksgiving.

Thank you, to you and yours as well.

I have had some moments lately where the site was buggy with the iPad. It took 20 minutes before it would let me log in. I thought maybe the site was going through some maintenance. I wonder if there was an issue with one of the recent iOS updates but I was finely able to log on. I know this doesn’t help but maybe others have experienced this too.
