  1. Almost 2 weeks and we still don't know who the smartest one is.
  2. The KG-1000G or XS-20G are both very good mobile radios. I had a KG1000G in both my Jeeps for a couple of years before replacing them with (MUCH more expensive) LMR type radios.
  3. My GMRS repeater is at about 1,800 feet in Southern California and covers around 40-50 miles in 3 directions on about 25 watts, but only about 1 mile in one direction because of mountains. My group had another repeater at about 5,500 feet in Southern California and it covered LAX to San Diego and Scirocco Summit on 50 watts. Line of sight and antenna height are critical.
  4. It sounds like you don't understand. When you transmit on a [GMRS] repeater you are transmitting at 5Mhz higher.. So, you are not transmitting on 462.xxx, you are transmitting on 467.xxx - and that is further away from the antenna's sweet-spot, thusly resulting in a higher SWR,
  5. Me, and 99% of the rest of the normal people in these United States do not care. That is an FCC problem, not an us problem.
  6. My TalkPod A36Plus also transmits on MURS, right out of the box.
  7. The radio works on both services at the same time already.
  8. No, but I am hoping that maybe some of the "experts" will know!
  9. It is a fully functioning ham and GMRS radio, albeit horribly/incorrectly programmed for GMRS. It can transmit on 2M, 70CM, and GMRS. The manufacturer says that you can display any one of the 256 channels on Display A, and any of the other 256 channels on Display B. The same 256 channels on two different screens does not equal 512, by my math.
  10. Does it do this on every frequency and every signal, or only some?
  11. Dont forget to discuss the merits of picking up chicks via the proper and legal use of both a quality belt-clip and a wrist-strap.
  12. Three: you didnt actually program the repeater into your radio and you are trying to reply on the simplex channel you are hearing them on.
  13. In about 2 weeks ago.
  14. Because it would be way, WAY too hight/tall and might not be stable at high speed?
  15. Uh huh.
  16. All the good YouTubers talk very slowly and deliberately.
  17. Sounds like a perfect opportunity for you to be a pillar of your community and put up a repeater for you, and everyone to use.
  18. Welcome to the forum, but, if you are using GMRS to find new friends you have chosen the wrong hobby. GMRS is more for communicating with existing friends while driving, hiking, etc. For finding new friends/talking to strangers, ham radio or the Grindr app might be a better choice.
  19. The FCC is just keeping us safe, how dare you question their motives!
  20. Statistically (and historically) speaking, no, they wont, and anyone that actually believes that this would actually happen is either living in a made-up fantasy world or being willfully disingenuous. ...just sayin...
  21. You got me curious so I tested one with my AA-650: No groundplane: Min SWR 1.16:1 @ 484Mhz, SWR @462.575 = 3.0:1 With Groundplane: Min SWR 1.49:1 @466Mhz, SWR @462.575 = 1.9:1
  22. This newly listed repeater : https://mygmrs.com/repeater/7576 Is an unauthorized copy of this repeater: https://mygmrs.com/repeater/4744 and should be removed.
  23. Based on the actual track-record of FCC enforcements since 2012, statistically speaking, they wont do anything.
  24. When I go off-roading I always have my mobile radio set to scan all channels. But GMRS isnt really intended to "reach out" - it is more of a person-to-person radio service and is not the best choice for finding strangers to chat with. For that, H.A.M. radio or the Grinder app are probably a better choice.
  25. Obviously it is an acronym because "ham" would not make any sense. H.A.M. makes more sense to anyone with a good grasp of talking english good.
