Frankly, I wish the ancients would have just left it alone. I don't know who's bright idea it was to tamper with it in the first place. Ben Franklin, George Hudson, William Willett, some dude in Canada, whatever. I like having more daylight after work but I'd be just as happy with standard time as long as we just pick one.

You're transmitting out of the designed frequency range yet you are complaining because it doesn't work as well?

I agree with the others.  The lip mount should give you a decent ground plane.  At these frequencies, electro-magnetic coupling is fine.  Just make sure the screws are tight enough to provide support that the antenna doesn't wave around, fall off or bend the sheet metal, but you don't have to worry about puncturing the paint/etc. to get a good ground.

The MXTA26 was my preferred antenna when using my KG-1000G in my Jeep, it is still the preferred antenna on my Jeep now that I use a Motorola XTL5000, and is the preferred antenna that i use with the KG-1000G PLUS that I use as a mini-base in my office.

I agree with the aforementioned... I used MXTA26 with a variety of radios on GRMS, including mobile and handheld. So far, it's been the best performing mobile 'gain' antenna I have used on the service.

I really wasn’t recommending it. It was a theoretical response to a theoretical question. ?
Personally, I would go with a yaesu ftm-6000.

Welcome!!!  I totally get the whole "my family/friends don't get it" situation.  My wife and son were/are Hams and lately neither of them think I'm sane.  LOL

I'm a bit south from you, down in Prince William County, but there are a bunch of GMRS repeaters and users around the DC/B'more area.  There are countless amateur repeaters, too.

Ask questions if you have any.  There are some very, very smart people here with tons of experience and willing to help.  Have fun and hopefully I'll catch you on the air in my travels!

Welcome!  If I have correctly parsed your message, it sounds like maybe you would also like to get your ham license.  It’s as easy as it ever has been.  If you need any help with that I can recommend a good teaching tool.

Welcome! Key up the repeater, say your call sign, and say "monitoring" or "listening" or "testing". If the repeater responds, you should hear a courtesy tone come back. Ask for a signal report, (not a radio check, that's how you pay for radios), and if anyone is listening they may come back to you. Just make sure you ID properly when you are conversing on a repeater, and speak normally like you're on the phone or in person. No silly jargon. I have a Baofeng UV5R and a pair of UV82s that work fine on repeaters.

@Sshannon has a good point, I thought you were asking about only tones...
You are trying to program a GMRS repeater... So, you need to put + (plus) for Duplex and 5.000000 (5 Mhz) for the Offset.

I have one question and one suggestion.   First, the suggestion:  Personally,I would not do TSQL for 31.  I would just do Tone, and leave out the receive tone.
Same suggestion  for repeater 32.  I would leave the receive tone empty.
By leaving the receive tone empty you will hear everything transmitted on the 462 frequency you have programmed.  That’s helpful for troubleshooting when just starting.
Now the question.  How is the necessary transmit frequency entered?
In the screenshot you included, nothing is entered for an offset.  I don’t have a BTech, so maybe it shows up somewhere else, but for each of your repeaters you will need to be transmitting with an offset of 5 MHz, so for repeater 31 you transmit on 467.65000 and for 32 you transmit on 467.70000.  Somehow that must be done, whether that’s done by programming a separate transmit frequency or by entering an offset of 5 MHz or by telling the BTech that these are repeater channels.

This is not the case with any of the radios I've dealt with having the audio issue discussed in this thread.  FYI: posting the same incorrect information multiple times wont make the information any less wrong.

I use my UV-9Gs frequently.  They just work and they sound good.  Sure, my Wouxun KG-935G+ is a better radio, but it also cost a lot more.  Make up your own mind I say.

My opinion is that Baofengs serve as a great entry-level product (gateway drug) to generate new interest and new users (buyers).  It is those buyers who will go on to buy more advanced (higher cost) products, keeping the "better" manufacturers afloat into the future
If entry-level radios were all of exceptional quality, but cost $700, there would be very, very few future buyers and the companies (Kenwood) that produce higher-quality radios would simply die off.

What happens when a soldier speaks to a truck driver? Both have special acronyms and codes, Then a LEO gets involved, again different codes. So, a lawyer who  speaks in circles and is incapable of answering a simple question gets involved with alot of leagaleese and double speak so it's nearly impossible to get a clear message. The FCC does not understand or really care so the OK it and there we have it..Everything should be in clear and concise English.   And Alice Cooper says "mixerthingwhaynowbatcrapwhatdaywasitbefore." and we are all confused.

It never ceases to amaze me how many people post on this forum about how GMRS, MURS, FRS or amateur radio should do something or include something they don't already. The general public has available bandwidth and modes up the yazoo between CB, MURS, amateur, GMRS and FRS, and still that's not enough. Sheesh.
