Sorry, I don't agree. He simply made a joke about the thread title. His joke was funny, and not offensive. Your response however, was, in calling someone a DICK. I clicked on the thread expecting it to be about someone other people on the forum might know, perhaps asking if anyone had heard from Terry, or maybe if anyone thought a product or service someone named Terry offered was worthwhile, or maybe letting people know Terry had passed away. Nope, just a post asking a question about a radio. Good question, bad thread title, which I am sure was not intentional on your part. Thread titles are used so people know what the thread is about. Calling someone a DICK for making a joke about a thread title that doesn't come close to describing what the thread was about is an emotional knee-jerk reaction. Maybe take a second to breathe and rethink. ONce again, I believe your mis-named thread was not intentional, but it did nothing to tell anyone what your thread was about, hence the joke.

    Radio question

Since most gmrs gear is really just repurposed from another service with some tweaks for certification, it's going to depend on the limitations of the base hardware. Look at wouxun...kg805g being based on a single band radio, while the kg1000g receives 10., 6m, 2m, and 70cm in addition to gmrs (being based on the quad band uv980p)

    Intro to GMRS - Video

Hey folks, a few months back, I discussed providing a presentation on the introduction to GMRS, to just cover the basics. We held the presentation a couple of weeks ago and I wanted to share the video with everyone. Fair warning, I'm not a pro YouTuber and my collar mic dropped with a few minutes left... please be gentle. LoL This is geared towards people with little to no experience. Hopefully it helps some people. The PowerPoint presentation is available for download, here... https://marcspaz.com/gmrs/GMRS101.ppsx Thank you to those who helped with content ideas.

Ol' Randy's just trying to have a little fun. Bringing some much-needed levity and dare I say some common-sense knowledge and advice to the boards. Instead of posting six pages of FCC regulations and technical service bulletins for simple questions like how the PTT works or how many watts an HT can emit. But this is what we've become.

Yeah, If you take your mouse and hover over his name a box will pop up. Bottom right is a button 'ignore'. Just click that as many others have. It's a pretty common practice. He seems to be the self appointed court jester or something. It seems he likes to keep his post count higher than anyone else around here by nitpicking every little thing he can find. Other than that, he's a legend in his own mind with all things GMRS and even has a YouTube Channel to pass on his wicked smartness about hobby radio. Oh, and for some reason no one understands, and by his own admission, he is NOT a river in Italy that Romans can freely cross. Never really understood that one. But he openly states that in his YouTube persona. Welcome to the board.

Well I just got around to checking this out @marcspaz... Very nice sir, well done and a generous share. You really put together a great presentation top to bottom.

@Kdcstks I think the answer to your question is no on the 2 meter, yes on UHF. I might add that IMO it's never too late to rename your thread title. Cheers

  10. Oh, I've had more than one incident with them. I have a commercial account with both FedEx and UPS. And I much prefer UPS. I only use FedEx if a customer requests it. Bottom line, I hate inefficiency, laziness, slackers, and other burdens on society that think the world owes them a living. The whole workforce has deteriorated after the China virus was unleashed. Just my opinion.

  11. My only complaint is the USPS. Everytime I order from Amazon and they pass it of to the Easley SC post office it gets lost. I ordered a new red dot for one of my AR's Thursday. Was to be delivered Saturday. Tracking showed they got it Friday, then tracking showed it came in two more times Saturday and out for delivery, never made. Yesterday showed it came into the PO twice yesterday and was out for delivery twice again. It's now Monday night and tracking shows my order delayed. AKA lost again.

  12. I did it! Finally made it to Ace Hardware and picked up a couple stainless steel sets crews. This is what should have been done at the factory.

  13. I'm quickly finding that out...which kind of led me to the question I posted. Quality cable ain't cheap. but now I understand why.

  14. I bought two of them. They’re decent little radios for the price.

  15. A short length of RG8x will work fine as a jumper. I use a BNC adapter on my radios then a 3 foot length of RG8x with a BNC on the radio end and Type N connector on the other end. The 400 has type N connectors on both ends as do my antennas. Type N connectors are better for UHF (which is what GMRS is) and many antennas can be ordered with them installed. That is what I did. By the way what radio are you running?

  16. Don't go with a higher loss cable coax. Additional height or additional gain from a higher gain antenna will be negated in the losses of the coax. Sent from my SM-S901U using Tapatalk

  18. Parallels is great and I use it on my M1 Mac to program all my radios.. If your Mac is too old for Parallels then it will probably run Boot Camp, which lets you run Windows directly/natively on your Mac so you should check that out to see if it will work on your MacBook.

  19. Yeah, I read the second point in the manual. Odd, indeed. Being the repeater was built with reformatted 8402As. There’s no telling what it means now. I’ll just leave on what was on when received. Thanks

  20. Does it beep as an acknowledgement tone? My guess would be that’s the “alert”

    GMRS repeaters

CTCSS is a sub audible tone (it’s really not sub-audible; it’s removed by filtering in the receiver) that causes squelch to open. It’s also referred to by some as PL, Which stands for Private Line. Don’t be fooled; there’s nothing private about it. Anyone with no tones set can hear everything transmitted on that frequency. DPL is a digital code that serves the same purpose. It’s also called DCS or DTCSS. Same warning, expect no privacy.

    GMRS repeaters

One of the menus on the top of the page is called “Repeaters”. If you go there and find the repeater you’re interested in and select it, there’s a place to click to request permission to use it.

Hey man, that's awesome! I like how you used those line of sight/repeater graphics. They're a lot better than the ones I had in the prototype materials I shared... Would you be sad if I stole/redistributed/adapted some of your work for the presentation I'm trying to set up? You clearly are better at this than I am!

    GMRS repeaters

    1. It's a sub-audible tone your radio transmits when you press the PTT button that tells the repeater to activate. Otherwise the repeater would activate every time anyone transmitted on the repeater input frequency even if they weren't trying to use the repeater. It's sort of like the security code on your credit card. Except without the fraud. 2. Yes.

  25. I just assume Fedex will be at least a day or 3 late in my area, I'm not even far out from the city. Everyone else can make it here in a relatively timely manner, even USPS, but Fedex, I'll just be happy it shows up period. I'll only ship fedex if the delivery address is someone I know and they specifically ask for it for their region.

https://www.manualslib.com/manual/3158987/Retevis-Ra87.html#menu_function_list The "programmable vfo" line info seems to agree with this answer...400-480mhz (uhf) only.

  28. FedEx took a week to deliver a Next Day shipment to me. An industry insider (ham radio friend) of mine suggests that they do not run some routes if the truck is not full. You just continually get delayed shipment notices until that route has a full truck to run it.
