  1. 462 is always the output (your RX) and 467 is always the input (your TX). If you have a 'real' GMRS radio you dont need to worry about that, you just pick the correct repeater 'channel', which will already have the tx and rx setup.
  2. Well, this thread went exactly as I predicted. A very sincere thank you to everyone that posted helpful tips to get licensed, actually answered the question and stayed on topic - you guys give us all hope that ham has a future. But thank you even more for "some people" doing to this thread, which simply asked for some tips, exactly what "some people" do best.. Proving yet another of the things that I say so often, that "some people" keep declaring is not true/I make it up.
  3. IIRC, you have to be in the previously mentioned "dealer mode" to change the CW-ID (morse code ID)
  4. Mine lets me program all channels, so I'm not sure why yours would all be greyed out, but I only ever need/use one channel so if mine were greyed out i would have never noticed. Running the program in "Dealer Mode" will give you access to more options and features. To run in Dealer mode, add "-d" (without the quotation marks) to the end of the program name/path in the Target box of the shortcut that you use to run the program.
  5. Which cable to you have/where does it connect? What version of the software do you have? What version of Windows are you running?
  6. Mine does this when it detects DTMF tones/IDs, by design.
  7. If you are hitting the repeater you should hear a 'kerchunk' or static-blip when you unkey. So yah, you might be doing something wrong, but it's hard to tell with the information you have provided.
  8. I paid about $99 for my Tram 1486 which is on one section (9 feet) of a telescoping flagpole, attached to the chimney, no guy-wires. I get about 50 miles of farz and have not worried about it since I put it up 2 years ago, making it, by definition, a "worry free" base antenna. I use it as both a repeater antenna and as a base-station (simplex) antenna.
  9. I bet that was "Auto Repair Randy" in Salton City! He's always monitoring that repeater.. We chat every time i go 4X4ing anywhere in the area.
  10. There may be other ways to get the repeater information such as the local ham/GMRS group or by scanning the input frequency with a radio that can scan for the tone, then connecting to the repeater and calling out/asking for permission, or just using it until someone tells you to not use it.
  11. You can try sending a direct message to the listed owner of the repeater, but if he doesn't respond to his repeater-requests, he probably wont respond to his direct-messages either.
  12. That guy is a clown..and a shill for all the cheap Chinese radio companies that tell him what to say, and he doesn't know what he's talking about because he doesn't have a H.A.M. license.. I know all this because he lives rent-free in so many people's heads here at MyGMRS that keep watching and then complaining about his videos even though they hate him so much... So all that stuff must be true.
  13. how close are the two radios to each other when you're testing? Try getting the two radios at least 50 feet apart and try again.
  14. Sounds like you are connecting, and it sounds like it is a 'simplex' repeater which records what you say, then re-transmits it.

    You're doing it wrong!
  16. I have convinced dozens of friends to join the "GMRS fun" ... ...they all hate me now and think that I'm weird.
  17. This is, i believe, the 4th violation/action the FCC has issued on GMRS/CB radio in the last month - which is more than the last several years combined... I think we are seeing a new dawn in FCC actions in the CB/GMRS world.. 10 years too late, but better late than never.
  18. One word: wrist strap & belt-clip....
  19. Assuming those are the correct tones (I didnt verify), then, yes.. You can simplify even more by omitting the RX tone, which is optional.
  20. I have it running fine on both Windows 10 and 11.. Try Uninstalling, then install again, but when you run the installer program, run it "As Administrator" (Google it if you have to).. then, after reinstalling, also run the program "As Administrator".
  21. Jeesuz.. "Some people" could over-complicate a spoon in their desperate attempts to show everyone how smart they think they are. The answer, which unbelievably even after all those words was still not actually answered, is: NO
  22. ...
  23. Thanks. Pretty much the same settings i had on all mine except for some reason the AGC:Total was set to 6 so i just set them all to 0 because Marc says thats better. FYI - On some older XTLs with more miles on them, they may 'buzz' when the noise suppression option is enabled - so if you have any XTLs with a buzz/loud hiss in the carrier, turn off Noise Suppression to fix it.. Out of our group we had 3 radios that had that issue.
  24. Basically, turn it on, select a channel, and push the button while you talk. As for additional programming, what does the User Manual have to say about that?
