Midland has not yet set a release date.  My sources indicate it will be at least a few more weeks.
The worst part of that means that I cant talk about it for at least a few more weeks!

This video goes over all the different settings on a UV-5R. The UV-9G has many/most of the same settings:

@OffRoaderXhas a YouTube video doing just that; albeit on another radio, but these settings are somewhat generic.
I could not find the link; perhaps Randy will return and post the link.

Well, we have not spread the word on that yet, have we?  That's why it is an idea or proposal.  You might have picked up on that if you read the OP.  If you read a little further you'd find that the only mobile traffic I heard was from kids on channels 1-7 on bubble pack FRS radios.  Apparently they've done a better job than you internet forum PHD's at getting the word out. Lol!

So I'm glad I could get you guys excited about a discussion beyond your normal tech-talk induced state of arousal around here.
I must have missed all that chatter on channel 20 when rolling down the interstate.  Not sure how that could be, with the level of common knowledge you claim is out there.

OffRoaderX got a reaction from SteveShannon in GMRS Repeater Rules and Clarification
    To the OP:
It is purely my opinion, but, on your list of worries when running a GMRS repeater, this should be at the bottom of your list.  I run a GMRS repeater that has about 900 square miles of coverage, and this is not even on my list of concerns. Pigs flying into my antenna is higher on my list..

As the title states, the new version on Chirp now supports the Baofeng UV9-G. I installed it and it seems to work great.

This is the obvious answer.. Everyone knows that CB Ch19 is the unofficial official road channel so it makes sense that GMRS Ch19 would be the same..
Someone should go on Youtube and decree it, to make it official..

Its not an option, you don't have any more rights to the use the frequency than any other licensed GMRS user.

Instead of telling everyone what you can't do, or what you shouldn't do, how about a suggestion on what we can do? Or is all this an exercise in futility?

If a tree falls in the woods, does it make a sound?
If the FCC writes a regulation that it never enforces, does it even matter?
If someone wins an argument on the internet, does anyone care?

OffRoaderX got a reaction from wrtq652 in New GMRS Mobile Radio - Wouxun KG-XS20G
Yes - The XS20G is an SOC (not SuperHet) - Source: The owner of the only XS20G authorized dealership in the United States - he also designed/spec'd the radio for manufacturing.
I too have a KG905G (a few), KG-935G (several), KG-805G (a couple), multiple KG-1000Gs, and some KG-UV9s... and I can tell NO difference between the XS20G or 935G (both SOC) and all the other Superhet radios - they all receive the same, from everything I can see/hear and from reports from human ears, they transmit the same - the signal sensitivity , although maybe different on a scope - i am not able to perceive any difference.. and the squelch,as best as I can tell, are the same..
...However... i CAN tell a (HUGE) difference in the $30-$50 SOC radios (Retevis, BoofWang, etc) and any of the Wouxun SOC or SuperHet radios - even the BTech 50X1 - huge difference in receive sensitivity and even bigger difference in squelch operation.

Just for info - I have tested and used dozens of antennas, and the one I now use on my Jeep is the Midland MXT26A GMRS antenna.  It has 6db gain, and right out of the bag it had a near-perfect 1.1:1 SWR so no cutting was required.
And, oh yah, it transmits just fine
