No it has to do with HAM radio being a "emergency prepardness" and "civil defence" tool in the old days. MAny areas adopted rules to exempt certain stuff. In todays world it really doesn't do what hams preach about but as with other rules they are there and dont normally change. Some areas have absolutely no restrictions on towers yet some are vvery strick on what and where a tower were to go.

No reason for a screwdrive to remotely go that high. A $5.00 quarter wave would work better.

    Barely tunes 2m.

    So I would venture no.

But you can try, would have to cut the antenna pretty fierce. I figure the internal coil is too long.

In fact I haven't seen a screwdriver antenna (commercial) built even go to 70cm.

Yes.  Ham stations in some counties and city’s are exempt from some rules while gmrs stations are not.  Same at some home owners associations.  Might be a good reason to get your ham license even if you don’t use it.

Roger beeps interfere with operation,  no, typically not.
DTMF ID, possibly.  Might put a repeater controller in some odd state and lock it up.  Again, possible but not probable.
MDC CAUSING issues?  No, I can't see any way that would happen.  However, there is something called ANI  or RAC that uses an MDC sounding code to access a repeater.  And there are controllers that will look for specific MDC codes that are in a database to allow access to a repeater.  So if you are on a system like that, the MDC is a requirement to access the repeater in question.   Mind you these are not common at all.  But I have seen it both commercially and here on GMRS.
All that being said.  The repeater OWNER is going to have the final say on any of the three being used on their repeater.
A lot of owners don't care for roger beeps.  I am personally one.  If I wanted a courtesy tone on the repeater (roger beep) I can add that myself.
I do support the use of MDC on my repeaters, but don't require it and I don't run RAC / ANI access on my repeater since it's an open repeater.

I suppose it gets to what the difference between what Amateur radio and GMRS is. Ham radio is a place to be about radio. It's radio for the purpose of the hobby of radio. Each individual holds a license, and typically gets on to speak to random-other hams. The substance of the conversation had is secondary to the simple matter of "we had a contact". "My equipment talked to your equipment and that's neat".
GMRS was actually intended to be a more practical radio service. It's why a license is for an entire household. Families, saying "hey add this to the grocery list", or "hey are you almost home?". Not necessarily for 70cm rag chews about antennas. If you wanna do that, get 26 right out of 35 and 440 is there for you..
Some of us are both of those things but just kind of wish there was a thing we could have our wives, kids, and siblings on for the family talk and not feel like we're stepping on toes, even though we're actually the ones in the correct spectrum.
Hams moved in on GMRS, because it was there and novel. Now we have these guys all over it seeping the ham flavor all over it and making it uncomfortable for our families to be on.

That Diamond x200A is cut for 2m & 70cm. Yes, it is very close to the GMRS freq range, but it could be making a little difference. I would look at all of your connections and the N to PL259 shouldn't make that much difference. Also those trees love to suck up RF signals. Just my 2 cents- Mike- K9YS/ WSBQ206

Well, this sort of nonsense is a result of a non-engaged repeater owner.  As a repeater system user, paid or not, you have no real say in what that repeater carries for traffic.  Ultimately, if you don't like it you can make a comment about it if you choose to but your final say in the matter is when you change the channel or turn off your radio.  You have NOTHING else to do when it's not your gear.  If the repeater owner allows that sort of conduct, then that's how it is.
But an engaged repeater owner that pays attention to what's going on with his / her repeater should be dealing with that.  Telling people that they are NOT going to argue, cuss and act the fool on the repeater and to either stop or go kick rocks is the way it needs to be handled.  And if they refuse, you shut off the repeater for a while. And the repeater owner can record the traffic, get call signs if the users are actually saying them and file a complaint with the FCC.  If it's a common thing for these people to act up and break the rules (causing interference) then the FCC might get involved.
But end users really have no say in the content.  And people shouldn't just throw up repeaters that they don't pay any attention to and let others act foolish on them.

Don't think by default the 60re can transmit on gmrs.

Not at least without a cap mod.

Since it is amateur radio ht. Not a gmrs ht.

EDIT: yup just confirmed transmit is 430-450 uhf and 144-148 vhf. Ham 2m and 70cm bands.

Low Profile. Please note the White Phantom antenna just under the rear window near the top and attached to the rollbar structure. This antenna is a non-ground plane designed antenna.
And these antennae are not "Ghost Antennae", I can clearly see the antenna. They are called Phantom antennae as named originally by Antenna Specialist now called Laird.

This is starting to sound more like what turned CB 11M in to a garbage heap. I guess with the increasing popularity of GMRS it was bound to happen to this service sooner or later.

gortex2 reacted to nokones in NEVER LEAVE HOME WITHOUT YOUR GMRS RADIO
Recently, a local Phoenix family drove up to the mountains northeast of Phoenix   several days ago and got caught in a snow storm and they were stranded for several days. The family did survive and made it out unharm.  They were lucky to be found by local Payson Area residents during the snow storm.
While they were stranded, they attempted to call for help using their cell phone but unfortunately, they were in an area of no cell service, which is not unusual in the remote mountain areas of Arizona.
However, the area they were in was well covered by the Diamond Point GMRS Repeater which is linked to other repeaters of the Southwest Community Radio System (SWCRS) that serve the Flagstaff, Phoenix, Tucson, and the eastern mountain communities in Arizona; and throughout the state of New Mexico. If they had a GMRS radio and if they were licensed and knowledgeable about the GMRS repeater system they could have use their GMRS radio to summon for help.
The point is, you can’t always rely on a Cellular Telephone for help, especially in remote areas. So, don’t leave home without your GMRS radio even in the metro areas. You can never plan when a GMRS radio will be the most valuable tool in the time of need.

gortex2 reacted to Lscott in RADIO - dual use FRS+GMRS and 70CM HAM
    Also NOT certified for GMRS.
For new users to GMRS the recommendation is to get a radio with Part 95A, under old rules, or Part 95E under the new rules certification. Some of the older commercial radios are certified under Part 95A and perfectly legal to use on GMRS. Plus, with some effort, they can be used outside of their official band split to allow operation into the upper half of the Ham 70cm band where the repeaters are typically located. Not all commercial radios allow this.
This is just one such example:

The difference between a 4 watt verses a 5 watt radio isn't very significant. Some may recommend a higher power handheld radio. What you'll get is a much shorter battery life and a great hand warmer, burner, if the radios is used at high power for more than very brief transmissions. I've read where some people have destroyed their radio from heat, even at the 4 to 5 watt level, when used at high duty cycles.

Because they know that for something as important as NOAA people will purchase the correct radios to receive them.
And, what if they DO start transmitting on UHF? - then someone will want them to transit on HF, because their HF radio can't receive them.. Then someone will want them to transmit on commercial FM, becuase their car radio can't receive them. Then someone will want them to transmit on CB, because their CB radio cant receive them.  Then someone will want them to transmit on 1.2Ghz because their cellphone cant receive them.
The more i think about it, the dumber this question gets.
