Just a short video from this past weekend. @hfd376 and a few others local to the area joined me for a nice New Year's Eve trail ride.

I have a Wouxun 935G plus. I owned a couple buy one get one GMRS radios from Amazon and they worked. I learned from using them. But I wanted more and something that was known for being a good product. Done a lot of reviewing and research, then landed on my radio. I love it. It works very well for an HT.

Just a quick heads-up, for those local, a group of us are heading up to Flagpole on New Year's Eve day.  If anyone wants to tag along, I'll share the details.

Also, phase 1 of the Gladiator is done. Phase 2 should start in mid-February.

I would just announce Call Sign, Location at the time and that you are mobile. To me that's good enough.

Try using the "Repeaters" tab.  Then, under advanced search, just to the right to the Frequency tab, hit the down arrow.  Scroll down and select Ohio.  This should bring up a list of all the repeaters in Ohio.  One more thing to try is, selecting on the "Map" tab.  This takes a minute to load, so be patient.  Then zoom on any location you wish.  These are the 2 things I used to find repeaters in my area, or any area I may be traveling to.
    I hope this helps.
    Good luck

I've been over-thinking this all afternoon and I just realized you could just say it 'Niner One One'

You’re overthinking it. Just say the four letters and three numbers together. In time you may find that you like the uniqueness of your call sign.

I have had/used every brand of GMRS radio in my Jeep(s) and almost every model of every brand, and for Part 95 "GMRS" radios, I prefer the Wouxun KG1000G.  It is a better quality radio than BTech and most (maybe all) the other brands, it outputs a full 50W, and has a remote-mount removable faceplate.  Several of my off-road friends use this radio and they are all happy with it.
And FYI - even though its spelled Wooks-On, it's pronounced "Ocean" .

The virus warning is a false positive with the 935G programming software when downloaded from Buy Two Way Radios. Myself and several others run it without any issues.

Many people have reported this with other manufacturers software and it has always been a false-positive, but I don't recall seeing this mentioned with the 935G software..
Where did you download it from?  The only safe/trusted source would be from BuyTwoWayRadios.com .

Seems pretty simple to me this would relate more to your current location (City/State should be broad enough) than, your home base location for simplex and repeater conversations. As a strictly mobile setup I give my current location when asked. This way it's understood I am traveling thru at the moment.  I think it would be confusing if someone were to look my call sign and I am 3-500 miles from that location.
Privacy behind the microphone?  Never has been an issue for me.

As the owner of 4 Midland mobiles right now (3 MXT275 - 1 MXT575) I admit I had some hesitation with trying to program them on the fly - which isn't easy because they use their own metrics and it's just confusing.
That said - if you can stop and watch what you're doing and have that chart with you to make the changes, I guess one could get along that way. I tend to use my own repeater and just stick with it and the TX/RX CTCSS tones on everything.

@Extreme Sorry about the dog. I actually only have 1 badge so far, but the wife and I love to travel so they give us a reason to travel and trail. Plus I like the badges. We hope to be out that way at some point. Looking very forward to it.

@OffRoaderX Love the photos! I have seen you guys on YT wheeling also. Would love to come out sometime and catch a trail or two with you guys.

@bd348 Hey I love seeing rigs no matter what. I like seeing ideas and you guys personalities in your rigs. I find it interesting.

@NHPLAY I am wanting some snow myself. It would be my first time in my Jeep playing in snow. Can not wait! Post a couple pics my friend. Would like to see your ride.

Well mine doesn't look so impressive from a distance.  It's only when you get close and look underneath that you see the armor bits and sway bar disconnects and LT-E tires, etc.
My kid thinks I should get a decal for the hood: "Curbicon".  So you can go to the mall with CONfidence!  (Que up the "Honest Jeep Commercial".  Look it up.)

Jeep JT pickup, Sport model, stock height, 32" LT-E all-terrain tires, various control arm and shock skids, aluminum engine and transfer case skids, hitch skid, bed skids, the wider Mopar HD rock rails with step assist, Apex Autolynx sway bar disconnects, Bilstein 5100 shocks, Timbren SES rear bump stops due to bed cap and towing hitch weight, Timbren offroad front bump stops (not yet installed), bed cap, Midland 275 GMRS behind the dash under the steering wheel, 1/4 wave mag mount on the hood on a sticky plate, upgraded coax, Garmin Inreach Mini 2.
We tow a hard-sided popup and get decent fuel mileage as we cross the country from the midwest to get anywhere interesting.  Did some Ouray and Moab, plus a bit of VA out east.  With the engine/transfer case skids sticking down a bit, and no lift, it can scrape a little on two track.  On the other hand, it's awesome for carving up twisty mountain roads.
Like many others here, I have to get my family to and from some pretty distant places, so I can't take "might break something" risks.  But a single trip blew the stock front shocks, and the skids got some scrapes, so I'm not totally babying it either.
I used the InReach a few times just to update the family while they're back home or in camp.  I used GMRS once while they were in the trailer a few miles away with a mountain ridge between us.  Made a thread here about how the signal was probably going along the valley, bouncing off the mountain at the end, then up the next valley to the trailer.  I had the 1/4 wave on the Jeep, the family had a half wave on the handheld in the trailer.
Heard some groups on GMRS while on the trails out west.  Heard some locals in various areas during cross-country travel.  GMRS is out there in rural America, usually being used w/o call signs.
